Thanksgiving Tablescape

I'm blaming the lateness of this post on being out of town recently, but the reality is that I put together this tablescape for Thanksgiving last year, when Mr. Crafty Scientist and I hosted my family (and hosted for the first time ever).

I was crazy busy and didn't have much time so I put together something really simple, but I think it turned out pretty well. And I had fun making it and putting it together so I wanted to share it before this year's holiday!

Basically, I got a big white tablecloth, put a green table runner on it, then added tan placemats and matching green napkins. I was working with the green theme because those were the colors of the table linens we bought (from Home Goods - one of the best discoveries we've made since moving north).

I made my glittered candles (see that tutorial post here) and then had some holders that I just gathered up (with some Target Dollar Spot turkey candles) and filled the bottoms of these hurricane-like holders (maybe from Michael's?) with limes I sliced up Thanksgiving day (so they smelled awesome).

Grouped together and we had a centerpiece...

I also made some fun napkin rings. I used some clear plastic shower curtain rings (from Target), wrapped red ribbon around them so they looked like regular napkin rings and hot glued those in place. Then I made some green paper medallions (using a technique kind of like the one shown here at Craftaholics Anonymous or here at The Shabby Nest) and glued those onto the ribbon-covered rings. Lastly, I got a branch of fake red berries from Michael's and pulled off a couple berries for each napkin ring and then used some baker's twine to wrap the stems of the couple berries together and then glued the little bunches onto the paper medallions.

And voila! Napkin rings for almost no money at all!

No idea what we'll do for the table this year, but I'm procrastinating that one for a few more hours... any ideas or suggestions?

I'll be linking up to some of my favorite parties!

DIY Glittered Candles

I made these for Thanksgiving last year, when Mr. Crafty Scientist hosted my parents and sister and made a ridiculously incredible dinner, and I had nothing nice or fancy for our holiday meal. I'll show you the full table at a later point, but wanted to post about this little project I put together awhile ago because I liked it so much and it was such a cheap way to make the table look nice and pretty!

Supplies
  • Plain white candles
  • Glitter
  • Mod Podge (I used Glossy, but switched over to the Glitter kind after finding it on sale)
  • Washi tape or painter's tape

Instructions
Round up your supplies and put down a tablecloth or something to catch the glitter if you do this inside.

Tape up the sides of the candles and the part you don't want glittered. I taped them up at different heights because I knew I wanted them to look staggered or have a step-like pattern.

Cover the tops of the candles with tape too.

Paint the Mod Podge on your candles and then roll them around in the glitter or just sprinkle the glitter on them, if you prefer.

I used the cheaper glitter because I ended up using a lot of it.

Cover the glittered candles with more Mod Podge.

I did a couple of coats because I didn't want to have glitter all over my table when they were done.

After they were dry, I peeled the tape off of them.

And ta da!

Beautiful glittered candles that take 15 minutes to make (the drying time takes longer, but seriously, a very quick project)!

Fave Fonts: From the No Soliciting Sign

After I made my "No Soliciting" sign, I realized I was pretty darn pleased with my font selection. I think that if you downloaded the cutting files for the Silhouette to make your own sign, you don't need to have all those same fonts. But I love them, you can download them for free... so I had to share them with you (because I know how it drives me crazy when I see a font I love and then none of the "identify a font" sites work for me or identify the actual font). I also made some graphics that don't really go together, but I wasn't sure what I'd use and I just went with all of them so you can see the pretty letters...

Here are the links to the fonts I used (so you can download them yourself for FREE)!

Just click the links and you can download those fonts for FREE! Do you have any favorite fonts? Any you've just discovered? Do you think I should make this a regular series (the favorite fonts)? Other font-related thoughts?
