Felt Shamrock Pins

A couple years ago I made the shamrock attachments for my interchangeable wreath and then Mr. Crafty Scientist's mom saw them and thought they'd make for perfect wearable St. Patrick's Day greenery. She wears scrubs to work at the hospital every day so she's always looking for little ways to add something holiday and festive to her scrub top or bag or something. Then Mr. Crafty Scientist's grandmother thought that was a great idea and wanted one too... so I made two felt shamrock pins and forgot to share them here on the blog until now!

Basically, I made the felt shamrocks the same way I made the ones for the wreath. I just cut two shamrocks from green felt and picked out some beads and sequins. Then, I sewed the buttons and sequins onto the front of one of the shamrocks.

One got pink beads because Mr. Crafty Scientist's grandmother's favorite color is bright pink!

And the other got some blue beads because Mr. Crafty Scientist's mom loves purple and these were the closest I could find...

I stuffed some batting in there and then used embroidery floss to sew up the sides of the shamrocks. I used some thread to just add pin backs to the two shamrocks.

Voila! Two little green additions to keep you safe from pinching St. Patrick's Day fanatics!

Fave Fonts #2

I put together some of my favorite fonts a few months ago because I used a lot of them in the Wooden "No Soliciting" Sign and I basically loved looking through my favorite fonts to pick some out to share here (and I made it a category on the blog that you can find under "Collections and More").

These are all free to download - just click the links below to get your own copy!

Hope you find some fun ones to download and play with in your projects!

My Secret Scrapbooking Habit & My 2010 Scrapbook {Part 1}

I know I haven't really shared much about my love of scrapbooking here on the blog and that's mostly because I'm ashamed to share what I've made because I'm just a regular person... not a super-crafter who also works at one of the big scrapbooking companies and gets tons of free products and who'll use a whole $100 worth of products on one page. And I'm not a Project Life-r. Or at least I haven't been - I'm thinking about it now.

However, I've gotten back into scrapbooking and so I figured I'd share a bit about what I've been working on. This first post features a chipboard page small album that I made for Mr. Crafty Scientist at the end of 2010. It was remarkable for me because I actually made a scrapbook during the same year that the photos were taken... normally, I'm on a several year delay. I'm currently working on the 2011 scrapbook. But I'm showing you pictures of what I made in 2010 so you can see the evolution of my scrapbooking... and see a scrapbook that is so clearly NOT made by a real scrapbooker!

Anyways, these pages were all hole-punched after I made them and I think that's kind of obvious and one of the most persistent mistakes that annoys me now, but mostly, I just get the warm fuzzies from the memories...

the cover of my 2010 album

a little bit of snow in January and being bundled up for the cold weather

a cute shot from the Photobooth App on my MacBook Pro and another shot from a night downtown

us at a friend's (very windy) outdoor wedding in Jacksonville, Florida (we road tripped there) - I really only had two or three rolls of washi tape then and I used them to make little heart shapes on that page

and then we spent our spring break in Jacksonville where it was very cold and not-so-beachy weather (I messed up the text on this one, but had fun making my own fabric tape with a Xyron machine)

pics from the cold beach and petting sting rays at the touch tank at the Jacksonville Zoo

Bella and Mr. Crafty Scientist all snuggled up and in matching hoodies... so much cuteness, I can hardly stand it!

Mr. Crafty Scientist came to visit me in DC when I was there for an internship (the irony that we now live around here is not lost on me as we look back on these pics) -- I love the photo where I made the Mr. stand behind the giant jaw because after he did that, several other people liked the idea and did the same thing AND it's now become a sort of tradition at museums if we can find more giant mouths or jaws of whales or dinosaurs or other super-scary creatures!
we went to an awesome brunch buffet with giant crab legs ("Deadliest Catch" size crab legs) that the Mr. still talks about and then over to the Botanical Gardens where I got this shot of the Mr.

Mr. Crafty Scientist was a good sport and tried to get one of those crazy perspective shots where he looks like he's holding the Capitol building... I didn't do the best job ever with the perspective, but there were tourists EVERYWHERE and it was crazy challenging to try to get that to work out

here you can see the thickness of these pages and how few pages are actually in this album

So that's the start of my 2010 scrapbook and I'll share the rest at some point in the future and finally share some of my pages that I've been working on recently. If you read this far, thanks and I'm impressed!

One thing I love about this album though is that I used so few materials - I really had a stack or two of patterned paper and one solid cardstock mini stack, some glitter glue, buttons in blues and greens, maybe 3 rolls of washi tape, ribbon scraps, a Xyron machine, fabric scraps, a couple rhinestones, a leaf paper punch, a label with parentheses paper punch, and a heart paper punch. The list seems long when I type it, but seriously, thinking about what other people use on one page... well, I'm impressed with my creativity on this one!
